ICYMI: Hundreds of students gathered at UP Diliman on Friday, November 15, to celebrate UP Pride 2024 and champion LGBTQIA+ rights. With the theme “Tayo, Tayo,” the event began with the Pride March around the Academic Oval, carrying calls promoting inclusivity and demanding accountability from the Marcos-Duterte administration. Groups assailed the absolute pardon granted by former President Rodrigo Duterte to Joseph Pemberton over the murder of trans woman Jennifer Laude. The celebration continued with Pride Night featuring powerful drag performances. Many acts emphasized the critical role of voting and the urgency of passing the SOGIESC Equality Bill, which aims to protect individuals from discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity, expression, and sex characteristics. The SOGIESC Equality Bill has been pending in Congress for over 20 years.
