ICYMI: The UP Men’s Basketball Team clinched their first win of the season, defeating the Ateneo Blue Eagles 77-61 in the opening game yesterday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. Despite a tight match initially in the Battle of Katipunan, the Fighting Maroons led in all quarters. JD Cagulangan led the game with 17 points, followed by Francis Lopez with 14. Cagulangan credited the team’s coaches for helping them prevail. Goldwin Monteverde currently serves as the Maroons’ head coach. UP archeologist and professor Victor J. Paz has died at 57, the National Museum of the Philippines (NMP) confirmed on Facebook today. Paz served as director of the then Archeological Studies Program from 2002 to 2012 and as chairman of the University Hotel Board of Overseers. Throughout his life, Paz was recognized for advancing the archeological field in the country and helping institutions such as the NMP in their public programs and research projects. As a student, Paz was part of the 1983 campaign to create the Office of the Student Regent. He ran to become the faculty regent in 2018 and as UP Diliman’s chancellor in 2023. -- EDITOR'S NOTE: The original version of this caption stated that Paz died at 58. He was 57 when he passed away.
